Artemis Leontis is Professor of Modern Greek in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Michigan, Humanities Editor of the Journal of Modern Greek Studies, and the author of two authored and two edited books on Modern Greek literature and culture, including Topographies of Hellenism (Cornell) and Culture and Customs of Greece (Greenwood).

At SFSU she analyzed Virginia Wolf's travel narrative, "A Dialogue Upon Mt. Pentelicus," focusing on how irony and ambivalence undercut the confident display of knowledge of Greece and the Classics by imperial British travelers.
